Eligibility Criteria: Qualification and Age Limit

Candidates must meet specific educational qualifications and age limits as of May 1, 2025, to be eligible for the NICL AO posts. 

Educational Qualification (as on 01.05.2025)

  • Doctors (MBBS): M.B.B.S, M.D., M.S., or a PG-Medical Degree from a recognized university. Candidates must have a valid registration from the National Medical Commission or a State Medical Council.
  • Legal: A Graduate or Post Graduate degree in Law with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST candidates).
  • Finance: Chartered Accountant (ICAI) / Cost Accountant (ICWA) or B.COM/M.COM with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST candidates).
  • Information Technology: B.E., B.Tech, M.E., or M.Tech in Computer Science/Information Technology, or MCA with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST candidates).
  • Automobile Engineering: B.E., B.Tech., M.E., or M.Tech in Automobile Engineering or a related engineering branch with a diploma of at least one year in Automobile Engineering. A minimum of 60% marks is required (55% for SC/ST candidates).
  • Generalist Officers: A Graduate or Post Graduate degree in any stream with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST candidates).

Age Limit (as on 01.05.2025)

  • Minimum Age: 21 years
  • Maximum Age: 30 years
  • A candidate must have been born not earlier than May 2, 1995, and not later than May 1, 2004.

Age Relaxation:

Relaxation in the upper age limit is applicable for reserved categories as per government norms:

  • SC/ST: 5 years
  • OBC (Non-creamy layer): 3 years
  • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): 10 years
  • Ex-Servicemen: 5 years
  • Defence service personnel disabled in operation: 3 years
  • Existing confirmed employees of Public Sector General Insurance Companies: 8 years

Salary and Emoluments

Selected candidates will receive a competitive salary package. The starting basic pay is ₹50,925 per month in the scale of ₹50925-2500(14)-85925-2710(4)-96765.  The total emoluments will be approximately ₹90,000 per month in metropolitan centers.  Additionally, officers are entitled to benefits like pension under the New Pension Scheme, Gratuity, LTS, and medical benefits. 

Selection Process

The selection for the NICL AO post involves a three-tiered process:

  1. Phase I: Preliminary Examination: This is an online objective test of 100 marks with a duration of 60 minutes. It consists of three sections with separate timings.
  2. Phase II: Main Examination: This phase includes an online objective test of 250 marks and a descriptive test of 30 marks.  The descriptive test is qualifying in nature.
  3. Interview: Candidates shortlisted from the Main Examination will be called for an interview.

The final merit list will be prepared based on the combined scores of the Main Examination (Objective Test) and the Interview, with a weightage of 80:20 respectively.

Descriptive Test: The descriptive test of 30 minutes duration for 30 marks will assess English Language skills (Essay, Précis & Comprehension). 

Penalty for Wrong Answers: For each wrong answer in the objective tests, one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted. 

How to Apply

Candidates must apply online only.  Follow these steps for registration:

  1. Visit the NICL official website at nationalinsurance.nic.co.in and navigate to the "APPLY ONLINE" section.
  2. Register by clicking on "Click here for New Registration" and entering your basic details.
  3. A provisional registration number and password will be generated and sent via email and SMS.
  4. Fill in the application form carefully and upload scanned copies of your photograph, signature, left thumb impression, and a handwritten declaration.
  5. Validate your details and save your application.
  6. Proceed to the payment tab to pay the application fee.
  7. Submit the application form and take a printout for future reference.

Application Fees

  • SC/ST/PwBD Candidates: ₹250/- (Intimation Charges only)
  • All Other Candidates: ₹1000/- (Application fee including intimation charges)

The fee can be paid online from June 12, 2025, to July 3, 2025.

Important Rules and Conditions

  • A candidate can apply for only one discipline.
  • Selected candidates may be posted or transferred to any location in India. The initial posting will have a minimum duration of 5 years.
  • Appointed officers will be on probation for one year, which may be extended.
  • Selected candidates must sign a guarantee bond to serve the company for a minimum of four years, including the probation period.
