Selection Process

The selection process for WBSSC SLST Assistant Teachers is a multi-stage process:

  1. Written Examination (OMR-Based): 60 Marks
  2. Academic Qualification: 10 Marks
  3. Teaching Experience: 10 Marks
  4. Oral Interview: 10 Marks
  5. Lecture Demonstration: 10 Marks

Total Marks: 100


Qualification Criteria 🎓

For Assistant Teacher (Classes 9-10 - Physical Science):

  • Graduate / Post Graduate from a recognized University with at least 50% marks in either Graduation or Post Graduation (or its equivalent) in relevant subjects.
  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from an NCTE recognized institution. OR
  • 4–year degree of B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed. from any NCTE recognized institution.
  • Age Limit: Minimum 21 years and maximum 40 years as of January 1, 2025. Relaxations apply for reserved categories (SC/ST: 5 years, OBC: 3 years, PH: 8 years).

For Assistant Teacher (Classes 11-12 - Physics):

  • Post Graduate degree with at least 50% marks (or its equivalent) in Physics from a recognized University.
  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from an NCTE recognized institution. OR
  • Post Graduate with at least 50% marks (or its equivalent) in Physics from a recognized University and B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed. from any NCTE recognized institution.
  • Age Limit: Minimum 21 years and maximum 40 years as of January 1, 2025. Relaxations apply for reserved categories.

Marks Weightage & Experience Weightage

  • Written Examination: 60 marks (60 MCQs, 1 mark each).
  • Academic Qualification: 10 marks.
    • 60% and above: 10 marks
    • Below 60% to 50%: 8 marks
    • Below 50%: 6 marks
    • For Classes 9-10: Higher of Graduation/Post-Graduation marks will be considered.
    • For Classes 11-12: Only Post-Graduation marks will be considered.
  • Prior Teaching Experience: 10 marks (2 marks per year of approved teaching experience in a Govt./Govt. aided school, maximum 10 marks).
  • Oral Interview: 10 marks (to evaluate communication skills and subject knowledge).
  • Lecture Demonstration: 10 marks (to assess teaching skills).

Exam Pattern 📝

  • Mode of Exam: Offline (OMR-Based)
  • Number of Questions: 60 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Total Marks: 60
  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Exam Language: English & Bengali (except for language papers). For Sanskrit, the paper will be in Bengali.
  • Negative Marking: There will be no negative marking for incorrect answers.

Physical Science (Classes 9-10):
